Still, regardless of everything I just said, what I really wanted to do was highlight that the Kriptor is from a different (possibly stronger, possibly weaker) time period in the Supreme Commander universe than what's currently being used in the debate. I'll admit that this interpretation is likely biased by personal opinion though. Generally, this leaves us with a Monkeylord that is far more devastating than any other Supreme Commander 2 Experimental, while still using downgraded weapons.

It's no longer 60 meters tall (IIRC, it's 40m in the sequel), uses an "Eye Laser" (A downgraded Phason Laser) rather than its notorious Heavy Microwave Laser, switched out its Heavy Electron Bolters for Disintegrator Pulse Lasers (originally used on the T3 Loyalist), lost its Meson Torpedos, and Traded out its full Nanite Missile Racks for the slower and weaker Nanodart Launchers. True, you could argue that it has been improved in 25 years, and there are some changes. It takes down a King Kriptor in 30 seconds, can destroy 2 Universal Colossi with health to spare, and has been known to break armies by itself.

Despite being roughly similar in all aspects, it is now an expensive juggernaut capable of wiping out anything else on the field. When it was brought back into SupCom 2 via the Infinite War Pack DLC, that changed considerably. It was strong, but far from the strongest, instead often used as a quick glass cannon capable of making hidden strikes. While not the weakest Direct-Fire Experimental (a title often given to the Fatboy), the lack of durability and the short engagement range of its main weapon often left it wanting. It was also relatively cheap compared to other experimentals, however that came at the price of survivability. It's main beam is incredibly devastating, and it's speed combined with built in stealth suite make it difficult to counter. Introduced near the end of the Infinite war and used heavily during the Seraphim war, the Monkeylord is best known as an economical experimental. The Cybran Monkeylord is one of the most recognizable units in the game.Ĭlick to shrink. The second most referenced sign that SupCom 2 forces are likely weaker is the re-introduction of the Monkeylord. Meanwhile in SupCom 2 the Aeon Experimental Anti-Air platform, whose sole purpose (were it in the original) would be to take out T3 and T4 Air threats, is equipped almost entirely with Electron Autocannons (or the Cybran equivalent to the Linked Railgun). A good show of this is the Classic Fatboy, whose Linked Railguns could deal with small T1 threats and maybe singular T2 units, but were practically worthless against a dedicated T3 assault. They were primarily the weapons used by the weakest units in the original, or as secondary "filler weapons" that rounded out a large unit's loadout so that they weren't helpless to small low-scale attacks. The first thing we know is that SupCom 2 units use the same weapons featured in Supreme Commander 1 and FA, however that most the weapons are all low-tier. Two examples stick out most in my mind (since I.uhhh.recently brought them up in another thread.
Supreme commander 2 experimentals manual#
It takes place after 25 years of de-militarization, and while the manual can claim that the ACU survives 100 Mt nukes, or that the armor has been improved so much that the sheer density makes reclaim no longer viable, most signs still point to SupCom 2 being incredibly inferior. The units were smaller, fought on smaller maps, and were arguably less durable since what they called "Experimentals" were basically fancy T2 Units. While THQ was not a good thing in the long run for GasPoweredGames, they did let the team work, while there were reports from Devs that Square Enix meddled heavily in the design of the sequel, and made working conditions uncomfortable. Square Enix owned the Sequel, since THQ had gone Belly up. The Sequel was Handicapped in many ways by their new publisher.

The original Supreme Commander, and its even more successful expansion Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance were very different beasts. Click to shrink. The King Kriptor is from SupCom 2, a game that.
